Samantha Gets High

Fantastic. My free cable went out for a bit, but it’s back!
I’m watching Travel.
Samantha Brown is in Santa Fe. She looks hot in that picture, but she’s not my favorite.
The hot air balloon scene cracked me up:
Samantha: “I’m gonna get high today. Naturally. In a balloon!”
In the air, she looks at another balloon a quarter mile away.
“Ever get lost up in the air?” Sarah asks sweetly.
Grasping the burner handle, her guide chuckles, “No. It’s kind of hard to up here.”
LOL
And holy crap that Flamenco expert woman is amazing! I can’t wait for Sam to try; she looks terrified.
Oh my, the title looks like a tabloid headline.
Notes
My first update here since Vegan Munchies, and I’ve been needing a place to jot down some thoughts lately.
Well, these are notes really from the public access channel I was watching yesterday. It was a recorded class or workshop on teaching writing/writer’s workshop. They featured vignettes from various teachers doing writing activities. It was really good.
Practice journals:
journal of white paper
draw a line at the bottom and write the date on top 5/26
draw a picture “remember, a picture is your plan for your words”
draw and label illustration
write at bottom using popsicle stick “spacer” or finger or crayon.
teacher models and works alogside
use chart stand
draw a picture
“I was doing my homework”
DESCRPTIVE writing activity
pass out randomly selected objects from a box for kids to write about
share work at end by reading to a buddy
writer’s conference
-look at writing from beginning of year (title, date) and discuss where theyre going (add more details), specific feedback
-are you proud of yourself? I’m proud of you
It's been a while...
SO much time and so many inspired dishes have passed since I’ve last posted. First there was Easter which my aunt and I dominated with our vegan dishes!
From left: curried tofu salad, eggless egg salad, fruit salad, fudgy cocodate bars
The curried tofu salad was by far the most surprising. It came from a recipe in the Vegetarian cookbook (can’t recall the title), except I added currants. Soo addictive!
ok I also invented pizza rolls, hello! used prepared WW dough from F&E and made a garlic “ricotta” spread with-
1 tbs tofutti cream cheese
2 tbs tofu
1/4 c cashews
salt & pepper
roasted garlic
splash of soymilk
y’all I don’t measure so those ratios might not be perfect but I’ll fix that recipe some day. Anyway it should be thick and delicious
Roll ‘em up with some “ricotta”, some red sauce, brush the tops with EVOO and bake until puffy and goldybrown mmm
See?

Mmm pizza roll pile of wonder
This was an awesome variation, too…
Yvess brand veggie/tofu dog
more dessert
Ok I actually had a good reason to make Susan V’s double-layer pumpkin cheesecake. I owed it to Khamis! I don’t even remember why. He claims for his birthday but I distinctly remember making him cupcakes…

It’s not exactly pretty but my oven is dumb and I’m not a baker. Of course I had to burn a little bit of it. Khamis thinks it’s the best part! I added more pumpkin and spices because that’s how I roll.
For a light dinner before dancing, I made some buttery garlic polenta squares with red sauce. Another successful first attempt :]
Oh My!
Holy moley I just made curry again, this time, I made the rice! We have no (real) internet so I had to look up how to make rice in a cookbook! It only took me two tries to boil the water. Rice and I generally do not get along, but today rice played nice. Anyway I’ve been mixing the genuine yellow curry powder with the nasty ThaiKitchen green curry paste to equal amazingness.
Nevermind all that. I made delicious vanilla cupcakes from a BOX! At fre$h&EZ I picked up a box of cake mix on clearance. I replaced the 4 eggs with one medium ripe banana, the butter with buttery sticks, and the milk with..you know. My dumb oven was being stubborn and not wanting to go past 300, so the batter sat in the tins waiting for a good 15 minutes. In they went, and my nose told me they were ready. Because I didn’t time them.

btw I miss ricotta.
